THE RAMMAL AWARD 2009 REWARDS BOTH A TURKISH PHYSICIST AND A MEDITERRANEAN FOUNDATION

 
EUROSCIENCE's President, Enric Banda, announced today that the Rammal Award for the year 2009 will honour both Professor Ayse Erzan and the Foundation René Touraine.

ayseerzanProfessor Ayse Erzan, 60, is presently working at the Istanbul Technical University. A leading specialist in complex and critical systems, she collaborates with several groups in the Mediterranean area and is very active in the domain of human rights and ethics. She is notably a member of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World.
 
 
 
fondation rene touraineDubertretFondation René Touraine has been created in 1991 by Prof. Louis Dubertret. Since 2003, this foundation, together with its Mediterranean partners, develop «Genodermatoses in Mediterranean », a network focused on the application of the newest scientific discoveries to the care of patients suffering form severe genetic skin diseases. This foundation has also greatly contributed to the training of dermatologists from those countries.
 
 
 

EUROSCIENCE CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS FOR 2010


The Rammal Award, created in memory of the great Lebanese physicist Rammal Rammal (1951-1991), is awarded each year to an outstanding personality of strong scientific stature who, through his or her life and activity in a Mediterranean country (whether in fundamental or applied research, teaching, or the integration of knowledge), has elevated the level of scientific exchanges in this part of the world.
Scientists of all disciplines may suggest names of nominees. Active scientists from any disciplinary background, including exact sciences, social sciences and humanities, are eligible. Organisations supporting similar objectives are also eligible, as well as self-candidacies. Short recommendations for possible candidates, together with contact information should be sent, preferably via Email and by August 1st 2010, to:
