Formerly Dean of Science (2001-2006) and member of the Senate of the University of Torino. While in this offise, he has chaired the National Conference of the Deans of Science of Italy promoting on a national basis the revival of scientific studies together with the Ministry of Research and the Confederation of Industries of Italy.
Member of the National Italian Ministerial Committee of UNESCO.
National member of the Academy of Sciences of Torino.
Honorary member of the Italian Physical Society.
Formerly member of the National Board of INFN (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare) and Director of the Torino Section.
Founder and first Director of the Department of Theoretical Physics of the University of Torino.
Has chaired the Session on Gender and Minorities at the Amsterdam International Meeting on Declining Interest in Science Studies among young people organized and held by the OECD Global Science Forum in November 2005.
His research activity has been centered in the fields of theoretical hadronic high energy physics and of the verification of Quantum Mechanics.
He is the author of over 260 publications in international journals.

- High Energy Particle Diffraction, (with V. Barone) Text and Monographs in Physic, Springer-Verlag, New York, 2002 and two teaching Books.
Has given countless seminars on his research activity and conferences on Science problems.
Has been visiting professor for a total of several years at a number of universities in the USA, UK, CERN, Brazil, France, Germany, Russia etc.
- Compagnia di San Paolo was established in 25th January 1563 as a charitable brotherhood. Today, the Compagnia is one of the largest foundations in Europe. It is active in scientific and economic research; education; art and the preservation and enhancement of cultural heritage; health; assistance to the socially deprived within society. Although the Compagnia is deeply rooted in Turin, and works mainly in Piedmont and Liguria, the Compagnia also plays a significant role in national, European and international projects, often in cooperation with other major foundations.
- Agorà Scienza is an inter-faculty body of the Università di Torino for the dissemination and communication of science. It is a centre for both the university and for citizens. For the university, because it aims to raise awareness in researchers of their responsibilities towards the public and prepare them for the public communication of their research work; and for citizens because it intends to involve them in debates that concern scientific research, stimulating a sense of scientific citizenship.
- CentroScienza Onlus is a non-profit organisation based at the Accademia delle Scienze of Torino. It runs and organises activities for the diffusion of scientific and technological culture, such as the GiovediScienza lecture cycle, the promotion and co-ordination of all activities of the Science Weeks in Piemonte, and the ceation of resident and outreach laboratories for schools.
