The awards was presented on 6 July at 12.30 during ESOF2010 in Turin.

Giovanni Caprara has been awarded the Euroscience–Stiftung Senior Science Writer Award 2010 for being continuously committed to high quality science and research policy journalism. He is the prime voice of scientists in several countries to transfer their research results to international audiences.


Euroscience–Stiftung Junior Science Writer Award acknowledges Alessia Maccaferri’s most impressive achievements in science journalism, especially her role as journalist and editor for Il Sole 24 Ore fostering communication between science and the public.


The Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical R & D popular science TV Award has been won by The Dutch television and webcast series ‘Beagle – In het kielzog van Darwin/On the future of Species’, which combined action from a ship following the track of Darwin’s famous voyage with background on current environment issues.


AlphaGalileo Foundation’s Research Public Relations Award has gone to ITER for its work across a range of social media to bring their challenging science to the widest possible audience.

Euroscience is pleased to announce that the Euroscience Media Awards, now including the two new awards for PR and TV, have been given to:

The AlphaGalileo Award for Research Public Relations Award

Original sponsors, Euroscience Stiftung have been joined by Johnson and Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, Europe, and the AlphaGalileo Foundation to provide an opportunity for everyone involved in securing more and better media coverage for European research to showcase their work. The journalistic awards have the support of the European Union of Science Journalists Associations.

The awards were presented in the autumn of 2009 in Hannover and will be presented in July 2010 at the Euroscience Open Forum Torino.

The awards are worth €5,000 each apart from the Young Journalist category where the sponsors reserve the right to award one award of €5,000 or two awards of €2,500.
