Izold Pustölnik from the Estonian Section passed away on May 2, 2008.

He was a Senior Research Associate at the Tartu Observatory in Estonia. Active in many scientific committees he was also co-editor of Central European Journal of Physics.

A renowned astronomer, he was convinced that cross-disciplinary links are one of the most efficient instruments for stimulating and fermenting creativity at the boundaries separating different scientific branches. This is shown for example in his involvement in the Society for European Astronomy in Culture promoting dialogue between archaeology and astronomy or ethnography and astronomy.

He was a committed European and an early day member of Euroscience. He founded Euroscience Eesti, Estonia and acted as its vice-chair. He has successfully established Euroscience in his country in close relation with the local authorities in Tallin, organised a NATO workshop in 2007 and stimulated the networking of young scientists in Estonia.

It is with great sadness we learned his death. Our thoughts go to his family.
