Dear colleagues,

One of the main objectives of Euroscience is to promote relations of science with society for the benefit of Europe. In connection with this objective, I have suggested to organise the new ES Working Group "Science and Urgent Problems of Society" in order to search for such problems and to select scientific directions for an urgent support by governments and funding bodies. Doing so, we will have very strong arguments that science can help society to cope with crises, catastrophes and disasters. It could also be an action towards public opinion, parliaments, the press etc

Being responsible for the creation of the working group, I would like to invite you to take part in the Working Group. If you agree, it could be suggested, as an initial step, to look for and select 1-2 urgent problems (with a short justification) which could be solved by modern methods of multidisciplinary science.
