Euroscience and its Bulgarian Local Section with the support of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences organize:

1st Euroscience Regional Forum

7-8 October 2011, Sofia, Bulgaria

Southeast Europe IN THE KNOWLEDGE-BASED SOCIETY

What perspectives for young researchers?

The main goal of this forum is to initiate discussions among different generations of researchers on: “the challenges of transforming economies and societies in Southeast-European countries”.

In this context, three challenging domains will be particularly discussed; 1) perspectives for career development within Science and Technology (S&T), 2) problems of long-term science policies and roadmaps of research infrastructure development and 3) intra- and interregional collaborations.

The expected results are to:

  • Challenge the Governments in South-east Europe to respond with more clear and concrete statements on their policies in the field of S&T;
  • Facilitate the definition of concrete research priorities;
  • Open new vistas for scientific and technological co-operations in the European Research Area.

The forum will include round tables discussions and poster sessions to allow participants to present their views on the challenges and scientific results.

South Eastern Europe

Euroscience Special Meeting

Split (Croatia) July 14-17, 2009

The success of the two-yearly Euroscience Open Forums brings with the fact that cities without a very large housing capacity can no longer host an event like ESOF. Recognizing that its public manifestations cannot be limited to the western part of the continent, Euroscience has decided to launch “between ESOF events”.

Due to the importance for European Integration of the South East European area (and vice versa), the first of these events will have the following theme:

South-Eastern Europe facing the knowledge society

based on the three following pillars:

- Visibility of scientific activities in this area

- Helping the integration of young scientists,

- Regional science in society issues.

A preliminary workshop was held in Split (Croatia) at the Mediterranean Institute for Life Science (MedILS) from July 14 to 17, 2009, to define the road map towards this event and for two years from now.
