In this context, three challenging domains will be particularly
discussed; 1) perspectives for career development within Science and
Technology (S&T), 2) problems of long-term science policies and
roadmaps of research infrastructure development and 3) intra- and
interregional collaborations.

Janna WellanderThe success of the two-yearly Euroscience Open Forums brings with the fact that cities without a very large housing capacity can no longer host an event like ESOF. Recognizing that its public manifestations cannot be limited to the western part of the continent, Euroscience has decided to launch “between ESOF events”.
Due to the importance for European Integration of the South East European area (and vice versa), the first of these events will have the following theme:
South-Eastern Europe facing the knowledge society
based on the three following pillars:
- Visibility of scientific activities in this area
- Helping the integration of young scientists,
- Regional science in society issues.
A preliminary workshop was held in Split (Croatia) at the Mediterranean Institute for Life Science (MedILS) from July 14 to 17, 2009, to define the road map towards this event and for two years from now.
