The prizes are granted in two categories: Ph.D. candidates and post-doctoral researchers. It aims at encouraging early-career researchers to integrate a European dimension and context in their research. The European dimension must be very clear: either embedded in a collaboration of researchers on a European level or the research is conducted in a European country. The research needs to be of demonstrably excellent quality. It should inspire others, and reach out to wider audiences.
The European Young Researcher Award ceremony takes place at the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF).
The EYRA awards two prizes: Popular Prize and the Jury Prize.
An international independent EYRA Committee appointed by the EuroScience Governing Board reviews all applications and selects the winner of the jury prize. It further selects two other finalists who will be invited to the ESOF conference.
At ESOF the three finalists give a short presentation at the award ceremony. After all presentations the delegates vote for the awardee of the popular prize. Both winners are announced after the vote for the popular prize.
The winners of both categories will be with a certificate and a medal. Furthermore, they get free participation in ESOF and a grant covering travel and accommodation costs as well as one-year free EuroScience Membership!
