Former President of EuroScience Professor Emeritus Jean-Patrick Connerade has received the “World Prize of Humanism”. EuroScience wish to extend our warmest congratulations to Jean-Patrick, and to sincerely thank him for his many contributions to EuroScience, and for his continuing and unwavering efforts to forge bridges between science and the arts in the true spirit of humanism.
His tireless drive and steady hand has been behind the “Science meets Poetry” sessions at ESOF (the EuroScience Open Fora). At ESOF 2012 in Dublin, the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, and at ESOF 2014 in Copenhagen, the Prince Consort, His Royal Higness Prince Henrik of Denmark, honoured the sessions with their visit and by reading some of their own poems to the audience.
The “World Prize of Humanism”, was established in 2007 by the Ohrid Academy of Humanism to grant outstanding persons whose creative activity promotes the principles of humanism, love and brotherhood between all nations of the world. The Ohrid Academy of Humanism was founded 25 years ago in a 7000 year old city in Macedonia, whose patron is St. Clement of Ohrid (840-916), disciple of St. Cyril and Methodius, and founder of the First school of Humanism in the Middle Ages in Europe. The city is designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.
