EuroScience has as the leading pan-European interdisciplinary grassroots organisation of researchers and science professionals consulted its members on the implementation of Plan S. The Governing Board of EuroScience has validated the resulting response. EuroScience is a long-standing supporter of Open Access and of the principles of Plan S.
But EuroScience highlights several issues. One is that it is questionable that implementing Plan S at the proposed speed is doubtful. Also consultation of various research communities is necessary as implementation scenarios are likely differ from field to field. EuroScience does several suggestions to be taken into account in the planned study publishing costs and prices. Evaluation practices for early stage researchers for their careers need to change. And we should not forget that other initiatives and options existing that move in the same direction of Open Access.
